Q.

Blocked tear duct

My baby is 3 months old. She has had a blocked tear duct since she was born. I was prescribed Tobrex but that only worked for a day or two. The doctor also gave me a course of antibiotics but that also worked only for a day or two. What can I do?

Clean your baby's eye twice daily using a dilute salt solution which you can make up yourself. Put a quarter teaspoonful of salt in a cup of boiled and cooled water. Use a cotton wool swab and gently wipe her eye from her nose side outwards. Do this twice each time and clean her eye twice a day. Using your small fingertip then gently massage the area at the corner of her eye on her nose side twice a day.If her eye is not better after 5 days ask your paediatrician to see her.
