Q.

Blinking

Hi doc,

My 3 year old girl has developed a strange blinking thing. She seems to blink hard and it seems to be an involuntary thing. I have tried to watch when it happens most. It does happen when she is watching TV but also happens when she is not. Should I worry or what should I do?

The most common cause of excessive blinking in young cildren is due to a habit or tic. This kind of habit usually lasts for about 3 months or so and is not usually due to any problem with your child's eyes.If this habit lasts for longer than 6 months it would be a good idea to take your daughter to see a paediatric eye specialist [ophthalmologist]
