Bleeding stools in 9 month old

Dear Doctor, my son is nine months hold and is teething. Initially i thought the runny tummy was from the teething, until it started bleeding and he had a very high temperature. I took him to his paediatrician who then gave him Orelox to take. I am also giving him Probiflora in his milk bottle as well as Rehidrate as he is not eating food. He has been on this from Monday, 22nd and today is the 25th. His runny tummy has not stopped but the bleeding has. What should i do? I am so worried now. His doctor said i should bring him back on Monday if it doesnt stop. Do you have any thoughts / suggestions for me please?

It is possible that your baby has had a gastro infection due to a bacteria called campylobacter. Orelox is not the correct treatment for this bacteria. A stool sample should have been sent off to a laboratory at the start of your baby's illness so that the cause could be identified. It is essential to ensure that your son does not become dehydrated.Give him frequent sips of Rehidrat. I sugget that you stop the antibiotic as it may be aggravating his diarrhoea.Give your baby Reuteri drops for 10 days as a probiotic.Often babies develop a temporary lactose intolerance following a severe gastro like this and it helps to give a soya formula for about a month.
