Q.

bleeding nappy rash

hi dr. my lo is 2yr old and at the moment everytime she has a dirty nappy she has the most severe rash. it almost looks like a burn with sometimes a little bleeding. her nappy is changed as soon as its dirty. nothing has changed in her diet. what is causing it and what can i use to heal it?

There are several possibilities here. The one is a candida infection especially if she has had antibiotics recently. If so give her a probiotic for 10 days and treat the rash with Nystatin cream. Another cause is too much fruit juice in her diet. If this is a possibility stop all fruit juices. A third possibility is Zinc deficiency. If the other two possible causes are unlikely then try her on Zinplex syrup daily for at least 6 to 8 weeks.
