Q.

Biting nails

Hi Doc

My almost 5 year old daughter has fallen into the habit of biting her nails. What can I do to get her to stop biting her nails.

This is a very common habit at this age and is not easy to stop.Applying bitter substances to the nails such as aloe does not usually help. The most important thing to do is to completely ignore your daughter's nail biting habit. No one in the family must say a word about it either. There is nothing that increase a habit more in children than being told constantly to stop doing it, this reinforces the habit. You will find with time that she will simply stop biting her nails by herself.

fee, i had the same problem, my daughter usually did it without even noticing. i bought her some bright pink nail polish and she was so proud that she wouldn''t bite her nails. tried that bitter stuff but she would bite her nails right through it, so it doesn''t work.
