My son has lots of bites on his arms, legs and stomach. It looks like a typical mosquito bite but keep appearing every now and then. had him at the doctor two times now, one said he has scabies and prescribed benzyl benzoate the second doctor said allergic to something gave antibiotics and celestamine and now the spots are back...I have noticed over the weekend that one of the spots has a round ring around the bite, could this also be ringworm? How wil I know if this is?

It sounds as if your son has a skin condition known as 'papular urticaria' Read more about this on Google.Papular urticaria is an allergic reaction to insect bites, especially to sand fleas and to mosquitoes. A single insect bite brings out this entire rash and lasts for months. It is itchy and children often scratch the itchy spots a lot.No medicines seem to help much but children usually grow out of this rash.Give yor son high doses of vitamin B1 known as Thiamine HCL. He needs to take 25mg daily for 3 months. Speak to your pharmacist. You can also apply Mylocort ointment twice daily to very itchy areas when necessary.

I had the same thing happen with my son, also did the scabies round (the medication stings terrible), had our house treated for bed bugs (!), the creche (he went there for aftercare in the school holidays) had to be sanitized etc etc thus a HUGE maraccas even though no-one else had bites (is that the same for you?). In the end it turned out that he is allergic to sand flea bites. They are prevalent at school in the sand the kids play in, and they come out the moment the weather becomes hot. We apply anti-mozzie stuff and the keeps the sand fleas at bay. Our poor chap gets impetigo from the bites, so we are very careful about it. His 2 brothers have never had it...
