Bed wetting

Good day.

My todler turns 4 in December. He is potty trained during the day, but still waers a nappy at night. He is very unhappy with this as he feels ashame, so I have to wait untill he is asleep to put the nappy on. If I don''t he wets the bed. I take him to the bathroom before he goes to sleep and I make sure he does not drink anything after 8 at night, but still wets his nappy every nigh. My MIL told me hubby was the same and I know my brother had to take medication for this. Do I need to worry? Any suggestions as I am rally worried that this might be someting he inherited as my eldest son took about a week to " night"  potty train. Please assist

This is very common at this age and you do not need to be too worried yet.It would be worthwhile trying a star chart reward system and see if this helps. Stick a star on a colourful chart for every night that he does not wet his bed. When he gets 3 stars in a row he gets reward, something small but something he really likes. Now move this up to 4 nights in a row, then 5 nights and so on until he is going for weeks without wetting his bed. You need to explain this system to him so that he fully understands. He is still too young for medicines to treat his bedwetting [known as enuresis] but when he is 5 years old he can be treated.
