bed wetting

Hi, my son is 4 1/2 and still wets his bed. If I take him to the toilet during the night he normally stays dry but sometimes wees again. Is this normal? Do you think it could be physological or should I take him to see a Dr. I really don''t want to put nappies on as I feel he is too big and I don''t know it it will make him feel like a baby and make the problem worse. During the day I have no problems at all.

Your son is still a bit young to start treatment for his bedwetting. This problem is called enuresis and is extremely common in children of this age. Try the star chart method. Tell him that afor every night that he is dry he will get a gold star on a chart. If he can get 3 stars in a row he will get a small reward. If he acheives this add a night before he can get a reward and continue like this. This may solve his problem. If it does not he should be seen by a paediatrician when he is 5 years old and start on more effective treatment.
