Bead in nostril

Hi Professor,

My 3 year old put a bead in his nostril. It stayed there the whole day until he came home in the late afternoon. I looked up his nostril with a torch and was able to guide it down by pinching his nose at the top and working it downwards and out.

What would have happened if he had sniffed it in?

Thank you.

Children very often put beeds or similar objects up their noses. These objects can usually be easily removed by your doctor who uses a special probe with a small loop. Sometimes the beeds may be breathed into the airways of the lungs where they can cause quite a few problems. Usually they are just swallowed and no problems occur.
