Q.

bad breath

Hi Doc my son is 6 months old and recently was a bit sick and put onto antibiotics for a red ear and throat. Before he got ill he went to his paed for his 6 month checkup and all was ok. The only problem i have is that he has terribly bad breath before he got ill and i''m not sure if its just me but it seems to hve gone slighlty smellier with the course of antibiotics. could it be something serious or will it go away by itself?
any info will be appreciated.
Thank-You

Your baby should definitely not have bad breath. The most common cause of bad breath in a baby of this age is a tonsil infection. Another possible cause may be mouth breathing due to a blocked nose.It would be worthwhile giving your baby a probiotic such as Reuteri infant drops 5 drops daily for 10 days. If he still has bad breath after this he should be see by his paediatrician.
