Q.

Baby''s weight

Morning.

What would be considered over weight? A 15 weeks old boy now weighs 8.1kg &  birth weight was 2.5kg. The sister at the clinic when he went for his 14 weeks immunisation said he''s obese for his age.
Please shed some light as my friend is starting to worry.

The average weight for a baby boy of 15 weeks is 6.7kg.Your friend's baby's weight is obviously well above the average and his weight is on the 90th percentile line of the infant weight chart. This puts him in the top 10% for weight in baby boys of 15 weeks. It would be good to know his what his length is now as he may just be a very big boy. This may just be a family pattern especially if his dad is big and tall. There is little if anything that can or needs to be done about his feeds at this stage. He should not be started on solids until he is 6 months old.
