Baby trows up mucus

Hi, my baby is 18 months old, she has a runny nose. She had a slight ear infection 3 weeks ago and was treated with antibiotics which cleared it up. The problem is her nose does not stop running, and she seems to have a sinus drip. When I lie her down in the evenings she will fall asleep, but after an hour start coughing untill she trows up. It seems to just be mucus, after this she would be fine and sleep through the night. She eats fine and drinks fine, and does not seem sick at all. I am concerned it might be asma or something else. She is allergic to anti histamines so she can only take herbal remedies to clear her nose and this does not work at all. Any advice or ideas on what can be going on.

Your baby appears to have whooping cough. She has the typical symptoms and cough with vomiting that occurs with whoping cough. This is not due to asthma. Keep her nose clear by using a saline nose spray such as Sterimar nasal spray twice daily. You can suck out excessive amounts of mucous from her nose by using a special nose suction device [ask your pharmacist for this].Unfortunately it is too late to start any treatment for whooping cough now as it has to be diagnosed and treated during the first week or two of the illness. This cough can last for as long as 3 months.
