Baby stools

My 3 week old has been having ''normal'' yellow stools until she was 2 weeks old. then she started passing the green one. should i be worried? Also, she has a reddish facial rash and a funny sounds in her stomach (suspecting colic). took her to the gp and he said that he cant give her anything for colic as she is still young and she might be constipated if he precsribes any medication. What can i do to help this little miss? pls assist urgently.

Is your baby being breastfed? If she is on a formula she may be allergic to the cow's milk formula. If she is being breast fed she may be allergic to something that you are eating that is appearing in tiny amounts in your breastmilk. Possibilities are peanuts and egg which you should stop eating and see if this helps her. If she is on a formula try her on a low allergy formula such as NAN HA or Infacare HA formula.

It could be because baby is getting too much foremilk, which is very rich in lactose. That causes rumbly tummy, sometimes explosive poos and stomach cramps. You can try to feed her 2 consecutive feeds on one breast, and then swop over to the other breast, so basically empty the one breast before going over to the new breast. I had this problem with 2 of my 3 sons, and it solves quite quickly if you follow this strategy. Good luck!
