Q.

Baby Sleeping thru the night

Hi Doc
My soin is 5 months old. He sleeps thru the night. From about 8pm till around 5-6am the next morning and he does not awaken at night. When I mentioned this to the Storks Nest Nurse last night as I has a problem with my son, she said that he should not be sleeping thru for so long. Is this true? And what do you advise I do?
Thanks

This is quite alright. Your baby is obviously very content and I am sure that he is gaining weight and growing well. You will be the envy of most mothers who write in to this Paediatric line.

My one month old baby sleeps for at least 8 hours during the night but struggles to drink during the day, is this ok if she is picking up weight

I also have a 5 months baby who doesn' t wake during the night.I put him to sleep at around 8 and he will be awake at about 5/6am. If i' m lucky he will sleep again at about 8am until 11am. I think they are sweet and angelic i dont worry cause if they were realy sick they would not eat or even sleep so long.
Do not worry,Enjoy your little one he wants you to get enough sleep for the following day.

Some babies still need at least one night feed at this age, but if yours doesn' t, then that' s fine. He clearly gets enough nutrition during the day to see him through - enjoy!!
