Baby Shaking

Hi Doctor, I''m very worried about my 10 month old baby. Yesterday while at church I was carrying him as he was asleep. He awoke and started crying, thereafter he started shaking all over for a few seconds. I immediately knew something was wrong when he started shaking because it was not normal. After a while he was his normal jolly self. It hasn''t happened again but I''m not sure what could have caused this. I''m just monitoring him to see if it happens again. Please advise any insight to my situation.

This is an excellent question and an important one. Many babies tremble or jerk slighlty when they wake up suddenly or get a bit startled. You seem to think that his shaking went on longer than usual. It would be best to ask your paediatrician to see your baby just to be sure that he does not have a seizure disorder. I am reasonably confident that he is alright, but one must make sure about this.
