Baby query

Hi Dr,

My 5 week old daughter was on S26. Due to her being terribly constipation I moved her to Lactogen 1. She seems to always be hungry after 2 and a half hours from her last feed. Is it possible that the formula is not strong enough for our growing little one? I offer her 150 mls but she always only takes approximately 125mls and at times about 100 mls. She won''t take more than that and seems to be content.

After 2 and a half hours, she starts crying and sucking her hand vigioursly. I offer her the dummy to settle but that does not work. I do the nappy check, the cuddle check, I check if she is over dressed, etc and when I offer her a bottle she always take it. Could she be struggling from colic and I am misinterpreting the signs and just over feeding her? Or could this be just a growth spurt?

Your advice and assistance in this regard would really be appreciated.

At this stage, your daughter will be feeding more or less every 3 hours. She does seem to be hungry from your description. Lactogen1 is good feed for her as it has stopped her constipation and also is a good choice for hungry babies. She may not be taking enough formula to carry her for a longer period between feeds, but she seems to be satisfied after her feeds. When she wakes up she wants her next feed.
