Q.

Baby not well at all

Hi Doc
My 6 and a half month old son screamed for over 2-3 hours this morning and did not want to be put down. He also had a fever of 38C and didnt want to eat. I gave him calpol and about 15minutes later all was fine. I dropped him off at creche. In the afternoon, the same symptoms appeared, calpol worked again. He drank a bit of milk however not his full amount. Now in the evening, he is doing exhibing the same symtoms. He doesnt want to drink his milk but will drink water. I gave him some rehydrate in his water. He is on Nan HA and the caregiver says that the back of his mouth looks inflated like there are mouth sores. I cant see this but also he does not allow me to see much. what do you think is wrong with him?

Without being able to examine your baby it is difficult to be sure what is causing his fever and his distress. He may have tonsillitis or a viral infection in his mouth, but you say that you cannot see anything unusual. Another possibility is an ear infection or still another possibility is that his ymptoms are the early signs of baby measles or roseola. Please take him to your doctor early tomorrow morning.
