Baby not sunctioned

Doctor, my son is now 2 years old and was deliverd in a public hospital. He was never suctioned from the mouth after he was delivered. I asked the nurse to suction him and she said that is no longer done, things have changed. But what i am concerned with is he is always having a cough and spits a lot of watery phlem. Could it be that he was not suntioned, it it true that suntioning is no longer done. What are the consequense of not suntioning the child.

He was hospitalised for bronchoneumonia last month.

Your little son's present illness is very unlikely to be due to whether he was suctioned at birth or not. Most babies are still suctioned at birth but your son would not have his present problems due to not being suctioned. It sounds as if he may be developing asthma. He should be seen by a paediatrician and a definite diagnosis must be made of his illness.
