Q.

Baby not sleeping

Hi Dok.
Any reasons why an 8 month old will not sleep during the day. He''s perfectly healthy, bottom 2 teeth are out, and he sleeps through the night. I''m just worried that he is not getting enough sleep during the day. He sleeps 10-15 minutes, max 30 minutes.
You can see he is sooo tired, rubbing his eyes and crying, but does not sleep. Any ideas? He goes to school during the day, eats well, drinks NAN 2.

Your baby needs about 13 hours sleep per 24 hour day. This is usually divided into 2 hours during the day and 11 hours at night. Your baby is perfectly healthy but is not keen on sleeping during the day. It is possible that the environment at the creche is a bit noisy or something may be distracting him while he is there. He seems to have developed a pattern of not sleeping during the day and this is not easy to reverse. It is still important for you to continue to try to get him to sleep during the day especially during the weekends when he is home with you.
