Q.

Baby had tonsilitis 6x in the past 9 months

My baby is 18months old, he' s had tonsilitis 6x in the past 9 months. He had grommets inserted about 6mths ago, and has now had ear infection twice in the past month.
The peadiatrication suggested we go back to the ENT, and he reckons that they will probably want to remove the tonsils. I am a bit scared as my son is still so young.
Besides the above illnesses, my son had various upper airway infections as well as bronchitis, and was admitted twice with broncho pneomonia, all in the past year.

If thought necessary,ENT surgeons usually like to wait until children are 2 years old before removing their tonsils. Your little son has more than qualified to have his tonsils removed and he will benefit from their removal. However the ENT may want to keep him on treatment for a while longer before removing his tonsils or may go ahead now if there is no other choice. Your paediatrician will send you to the best ENT specialist for your son's problem.
