Q.

baby constantly feeding and not sleeping.

My baby of 7 weeks seems to constantly feed and never sleeps. I know about growth spurts, but this has been going on since birth.

I have now started using formula as a top up after B/F. After B/F for 15 min each side, she takes up to 125ml of formula. She falls asleep on the bottle then as soon as i put her down to sleep to wakes and cries and shows signs that she is hungry. (rooting, sucking and screaming!) This goes on from early morning to late in the eve. :(

I am worried i could be over feeding her? Is she comfort eating? She doesnt take a dummy... When she is awake, she is never content.

It is difficult to be sure about the reason for your baby's seemingly constant hunger. After feeding at the breast she then takes a full formula feed as well. It is essential to find out how much breastmilk she is taking per feed. She still seems to be very restless after obviously having enough to drink. This is unlikely to be due to colic as she started off with this behaviour very soon after birth. It would be best if you took your daughter to a baby clinic so that you can get the advice and opinion of sister there. She may want you to start off with a test feed.

Hiya.
Thanks for your response. When she went for her 6 week check up the Dr said she can''t have reflux as she is gaining weight. (alot) She doesn''t throw up after her feeds either. So i''m really feeling rather lost and helpless.

The Dr prescribed colic medicine, which I tried, and she still doesn''t settle. :((((
