Q.

babies'  skin peeling

I look after a few babies and two of them aged 4 months and 7 months from different homes have skin that is peeling on their feet and a little on their fingers. Their parents and I are all very hygienic and dry them properly and we let them have bare feet whenever warm enough. Is this skin peeling normal or is it something like athlete' s foot?

This is not due to a fungal infection such as athlete's foot.Peeling of the feet and hands in babies of this age is usually due to a recent viral infection known as hand foot and mouth syndrome. Once the infection has cleared peeling of the skin occurs for a while. In many cases the mouth is not affected, just the feet and hands. The babies are no longer infectious to other children in your creche.
