Axe on foot

My 3 yo son dropped an axe on his right foot yesterday (to the right of the bridge across the metatarsals), luckily with the blunt side. It caused quite a bruise and also a small puncture/cut. I washed his foot and the wound thoroughly with antiseptic and then closed the little cut with a suture strip, applied bactroban, some gauze and then taped it with broad plaster tape. He has full mobility of his foot and is running around as usual without any pain. I wanted to take him to the ER, but my husband thought it wasn' t that serious. I just want to check whether I did the right thing?

You really dealt with your son's wound in a brilliant manner. There is no way one can be certain that he did not fracture one of the meatatarsals without taking an X-ray of his foot. If he has any ongoing pain or swelling of his foot he should have an X-ray taken.
