Augmentin and runny tummy

My little boy had a bad nose, ear and tonsil infection to which my doctor prescribed Augmentin antibiotiks. He has been taking it since last week Thursday and since Saturday he has a very runny tummy. Please advise asap what i can do about this situation as i am scared he will dehidrate!! I will stop giving him this antibiotics tonight as i were told by friends it might be too strong for him.

You should stop the antibiotic immediately.Your son's diarrhoea is caused by the antibiotic. Give him a probiotic such as Probiflora children's or Reuteri for at least 10 days. If he continues to have diarrhoea give him frequent sips of Rehidrat to replace any lost fluid and body salts.

Hi girl

Augmentin is prone to make the tummy runny from the 3rd day. What dosage was prescribed? When LO was prescribed 5ml twice a day for 5 days - his tummy was really bad , but with the next episode she made the dosage 3.5ml twice a day for 7 days, and his tummy was much better. Ask me girl, we''ve been on antibiotics for the past 3 months, but luckily his tonsils will be removed next Monday. He is currently in hospital with tonsilitis after he was on Augmentin the whole of last week.

Please give him a probiotic like Reuteri or Probiflora. This will protect the tummy. My paed advised me to gove LO banana - apparently binds the tummy.

Good luck.
