asthma in 16 month old baby

My 16month old nephew has been hospitalised twice with pneumonia. Now he has been diagnosed as asthmatic. He was fine two weeks ago but he is sick again. i am concernec because his doctor has got him aterax syrup, nuelin liquid, prelone syrup and a seretide inhaler. These dont seem to be working and I''m worried about the effect of all this medecine on him physically. Is the medicine approproate?

The problem here is that I am not sure about the diagnosis. Asthma does not have the same symptoms as pneumonia. Your nephew' two episodes of pneumonia should have been diagnosed by taking Xrays.Asthma does not have the same changes on Xrays of the chest as pneumonia. Then you say that the asthma medicines he has been given are not helping. Certainly Aterax is not the correct treatment for asthma and Nuelin is an old fashioned medicine that may cause your nephew to be restless and have difficulty in sleeping.A short course of Prelone may be used for sudden episodes of asthma. The Seretide inhaler is good treatment for asthma but a young chuild has to use a spacer with a face mask to use the inhaler correctly.I am not happy with the diagnosis of your nephew's illness. He has had two admissions to hospital already. Hhe needs to be seen by a paediatric pulmonologist so that the correct diagnosis can be made.
