Dear Doc

My 9y old son started experiencing stomach pain last night. We all shared a room as we stayed over in a hotel. We all ate the same meal for dinner. He was very restless and then he got up and I heard him vomit. He said his tummy was very sore. He continued being very restless and sore and got up one more time to make a poo. It was very smelly but he said just a little bit runny. He slept the whole way back in the car (4hours) and is pale. He did eat a big breakfast. Apart from that one vomit he has not vomited anymore. The pain is just dull and he does not have a fever. His tummy is tender to touch - especially on the right and he said he cant lift his leg to climb on the chair.

I dont want to be silly and over react. Does this sound like just a normal tummy bug or appendix? The pain started suddenly (no sigh of illness before) and he only vomitted once. He has no fever.

Thank you

You have given an excellent description of your son's symptoms. These symptoms are very likely to be due to appendicitis. He should be seen by a doctor immediately.
