Antibiotics, antibiotics and antibiotics again...

hello doc,

my boy is 4 months old now. when he was 2 months old he had cold for which he was prescribed some antibiotics. later again when he was 3 months old he had cold again and again he was prescribed the same antibiotic. now he has an ear infection. the doc have again prescribed antibiotics for him. how good is giving him antibiotics so frequently? is there any particular interval time period for giving antibiotics? though he is not allergic to any antibiotics i am little concerned about this. please help me. also let me know how i can protect him from catching cold again and again.

I am very concerned that your very young baby has already had antibiotics at least 3 times. Is he at a creche? Most infections at this age are caused by viruses so antibiotics do not help in any case. Please give your baby a probiotic such as Reuteri infant drops. Give him 5 drops daily for 10 days and do this for 10 days every month through the coming winter to boost his immunity. If he gets ill again your baby should be seen and treated by a paediatrician.
