Hello Doctor,

My whole family is suffering from sinus and I bought Loratadine over the counter. On reading the pamphlet it stated that caution must be taken if the person has Epilepsy. My 3 year old son has Epilepsy, do you think I should refrain from using it? Will it be safe to use on my 5 month old and if so, what quantity would I use? I am breastfeeding, can I take it?

Thank you in advance.

You should not give Loratidine to your son who has epilepsy as this is definitely not advised. Nor should you take Loratidine while breast feeding as it will pass into your breast milk. You should also not use this antihistamine in your 5 month old as its safety his not known in babies of this age. All of you will benefit from just using saline nose drops, much safer and more effective.
