Q.

Am I doing the right thing?

Morning doctor

I' m trying to brush my son' s (1 year) teeth, but no luck. He closes his lips tightly and cries. I gave him a normal toothbrush (a new one of course) to "  play"  with and to get used to the idea. He puts the toothbrush in his mouth, turns it up and down and bites on it. Will this be of any help? Will he get used to the idea? Will the playing with the toothbrush in his mouth clean his teeth to some extent? I really want to take care of his teeth, but dont want to force the matter too much.

Thank you doctor and enjoy a lovely day.

Thanks.Brush your teeth at the same time as he tries to brush his teeth. Make a game of it. He is very young but it will get him more used to using a toothbrush and he may let you take over to brush his teeth well. Be very patient and eventually he will let you brush his teeth.

I bought my daughter an electrical toothbrush (a " Bratz"  one for kiddies), and she loves it! I think the noise it makes and the turning of the top on her gums.

Maybe try one of these toothbrushes.
