Allergy or ?

My 8 year old daughter has never suffered from allergies (or I have never noticed). She often sleeps at her grandma''s house and comes home with a cough. Last week she slept there - but in a different room that usual, the next day she coughed all day and nearly fainted as she could not breathe properly due to her coughing. I gave her some allergex which made her sleep. While she was sleeping she struggled to breathe and started crying. I took her to emergency and she was put on a nebuliser. Could she have had an allergic reaction to something - that only seriously triggered a major problem about 6 hours after being in contact with dogs, etc?

It does seem that your daughter did have an allergic reaction and she appears to have had an asthma attack. She should be seen by a paediatrician so that she can be properly diagnosed and started on treatment if this is thought to be necessary.
