Q.

Allergy management

Dear Prof

My 1 yo has had a yellow mucus nose for weeks now, and with repeat sneezing at times. I am starting to think it is indeed allergy and not recurrent colds. The allergy season has started with a big bang in Stellenbosch, and myself, my husband (who never had allergy before) and our 1 son are suffering quite badly, so I think it is likely that the little chap also has it? We have a script for Nasonex, but I''d like to know what is the best strategy? Nasonex only, Deselex only or combining the 2? Many thanks.

It is certainly a bad allergy season this year and it is indeed posssible that your baby has a nasal allergy. You can use the Nasonex nasal spray once daily for him and also give him Allecet syrup 2.5ml at night, rather than Deselex.
