Dear Doc,

My baby is 7 months old. My husbend had eczema when he was a child, and the babies aunt had asthma. I was told that I should not give any dairy products to the baby, including cheese and yoghurt, untli at least she is one. Do you think I can give her soy products? I have seen some special lactose free cheese in pnp, and also goats cheese, can I try them? I was also wondering, can I just try, say give her 1 teaspoon of plain yoghurt and see if she has any reaction?

You do not mention whether your baby has had eczema or not. If not she may be taking after your side of the family and is not an allergic baby.Try her on a little NAN HA and see if she can tolerate this low allergy cow's milk. If she is alright on NAN HA, you can try her on a little yoghurt when she is 8 months old.Do not give her goats milk cheese or lactose free cheese. Your baby has not got a lactose intoelarnce problem, so does not need a lactose free product.
