Q.

Allergies

When does one know when a runny nose is caused by allergies or it is a cold. My little girl continously has a runny nose  or it feels like it. She has a 3 days out of 3 weeks of no runny nose. The paed has prescribed flixonase - but I''m not sure whether it is really making a difference

The nasal duscharge is clear and watery with allergy, rather than thick and yellow or green mucous.Children have an itchy nose with allergies. They often rub their noses a lot because of the itch. The rubbing movement is often upwards in an attempt to clear the nose. This movement is known as the allergic salute.Bouts of sneezing especially in the mornings is another feature of nose allergy.
