Allegic to daipers

Dr, have you ever come across this reaction!? My toddler seems to be allergic to the elastics in his daipers! I bought different ones to see the reaction, and every time he gets a red rash(but very itchy and painfull) exactly where the elastics touches his skin!

You are very observant. Yes your toddler can be allergic to the elastic in diapers. He should now be regarded as being allergic to all latex products. So be careful with ballooons when he is a bit older. You will have to use the old fashioned toweling nappies for him which is quite a mission.Children who are allergic to latex are often also allergic to bananas, kiwi fruit, avocados and potatoes, so be careful about these possible food allergies.

Why don''t you try using cloth nappies instead?
You can buy shaped ones that don''t require hours of folding.

Shame, how uncomfortable for your little one.
