Aggressiveness

My son aged 3yrs 10mths has been very aggressive of late. Throws tantrums when he is angry and gets out of control. Picks things up and throws them against the walls and I cannot control him anymore. I have just seperated from my husband, so is this the reason for the behavioural change. Please help.
