Hi Doctor. My son is 20 months old and is very very active. As a baby he was very good and till this day he sleeps well, but I am worried. People are telling me he is too energetic and he has ADD. He has already had 2 bad accidents and was admitted into hospital. He hardly sits and listens. Not even for 5 minutes. He will never sit still if I take him somewhere. He is not too interested in toys. He does however play alone sometimes and loves to watch TV. Not speaking yet either. He says about 5 words. He is on the go the whole time. He also prefers running to walking. Please advise me as to what to do.

It is too early to be sure whether your son has a definite ADHD problem or not, but he is showing many of the signs of this problem. He is certainly very active and generally has a short attention span except that he does sit and watch TV and can keep himself amused at times. His speech is rather slow as well but this is not uncommon with little boys of this age especially. It is important to make sure that he can hear properly and he should have a hearing test done by an audiologist. He should also be on daily Omega3 such as Eye Q, there are cheaper alternatives available. If you remain concerned about his behaviour he should be assessed by a paediatrician at 4 to 5 years.
