What causes adenoids?

The adenoids are found in the back of the nose in children.They become smaller after the age of 11 years and virtually disappear. They are part of the body's protective mechanism In some case the become enlarged or infected and cause problems like a very blocked nose with snoring while sleeping. If they become infected this often leads to problems with a post-nasal drip.

Thx for the reply, the thing is yesterday I was told that my son has adenoids and they might have to operate to take them out. Will taking them out eliminate his snoring problem and the problem of not being able to breathe with his nose for ever or will there be something else that we would have to do. he is only 8months old.
