Absent steppking reflex

Dear Doc

My 2 month old baby is a healthy, happy in every way. Her weight gain has been perfect, she smiles, " talks" , even grasps her bath toys! In many ways I think she is advanced in terms of her development (but I''m her mother so she is probably just average. LOL).

HOWEVER, I have never seen her display the stepping reflex! I have tested it a number of times and the only time I have seen her display this is when we are playing on the grass (the grass obviously tickles her feet...)

What does this mean for her future development? Should I be worried?

You should not be at all worried. Your baby seems to be developing normally. The stepping reflex is a very early reflex which soon disappears in babies. It is often difficult to test for and even experienced paediatricians often have to try repeatedly to demonstrate this reflex in newborn and very young babies.
