ITP stands for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura. This is a disorder where insufficient blood platelets are made in the bone marrow. Platelets are imprortant for clotting of the blood so when there is a shortage small bleeding spots occur in the skin which is called purpura.'Idiopathic' means that the cause is unknown and 'Thrombocytopenic' means that the platelet count is low.Treatment with steroids is often advised but in many cases the condition gets better by itself within about 6 months and no treatment is needed.A strict diet is not usually part of the treatment.
