Q.

Similac TC no 2 or 3.

Hi Doc, my son is 21 months and has been drinking similac TC no 3 since 12 months. I have tried other formulas like Nido, parmalat first growth and even just normal cow's milk which he doesn't like. I have even added some nesquick or milo to see if he would drink it with the added sugar (which I know is not too good but I wanted to at least try it) but he just doesn't want to drink anything but the similac. He eats very well, 3 healthy meals a day, 3 fruits for snacks, and then also yoghurt, cheese and biltong for snacks, he is within his healthy weight curve and is really just a healthy little boy. I recently couldn't find similac TC no 3 so I bought a no 2 tin, which I find he loves a lot more than the no 3. On no 3 he only drank about 120ml of milk a day, with the no 2 he has about 250mls. Would it be an issue if I continue with the no 2 in future instead of no 3? What exactly is the difference between the 2?

The two formulas are much the same, but the TC 3 has added Omega 3 and 6 and additional minerals and iron and prebiotics which support the growth of good bacteria in the digestive system. It is a so-called growth formula. Your son is eating a very good mixed diet so he only needs a maximum of 2 cups of milk a day. Seeing that he is eating yoghurt and cheese his calcium intake is good. So he can use the Similac TC 2 until you can get the TC 3 again.
