Q.

9mnth old &  sitting

Hi doc

My son is 9 mnths old he is still not sitting fully, he will sit for a few seconds but will throw himself backwards. Can his hearing have anything to do with it, as he failed the general hearing screenings at birth. He had another type of test done but the results were inconclusive and they said he should come back in summer when he is not congested, could his congestion also contribute to the failed tests.

Thanks

Most babies start to sit without falling over by the age of 6 or 7 months. While it is accepted that some babies are a bit slow with their milestones, it is a bit unusual for a baby not to be sitting by 9 months. This is unlikely to be due to your son's hearing. It would be best to ask your paediatrician to see him.
