9 year old not sleeping

My 9 year old son is an only child. We battle to get him to fall asleep at night. Its worse on Sunday evenings. It can take him up to 2 1/2 hours to fall asleep. The passage light is on. He has a night light and his teddy bear. We stick to a routine everynight. Bath at 6, supper at 6 30 family time till 7 30 then into bed. What else can we do?

Many clever and sensitive children do not fall asleep easily. your son goes to bed rather early and you should allow him to go to bed at 8pm. Read to him or let him read himself until he gets tired and falls asleep. The house should be peaceful and quiet when he goes to sleep and the TV in particular should not be loud.Do not let him have any drinks or foods which may contain caffeine such as tea, cokes and chocolate after 4pm.
