Q.

9 month old - underweight

Hi

The nurse at the clinic told me two weeks ago that my daughter was seriously underweight - she weighed 7.9kg at her 9 month appointment. They put her on Vi-Daylin and I' ve tried to increase her food intake, but when I went to check her weight after two weeks we found that she hasn' t picked up any weight. Should I be worried? She' s happy, crawls around and is starting to stand up against everything and she wasn' t premature or underweight at birth.

This is a difficult question to answer as your baby appears to be happy and well...but her weight is well below the average for a 9 months old baby girl which is 9.5 kg. Your baby's weight is on the lowest 10% line.It would be best to have her checked by a paediatrician just to be quite sure that all is well and that she is just following a family pattern.
