There are several posible causes for these symptoms which are going on for a long time. A viral infection is unlikely to last for 3 weeks. This leaves conditions such as tick bite fever, brucellosis also known as malta fever and especially a condition called Stills disease which is also known as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. These are just some of the possibilites. Your child should be seen by an infectious diseases expert. There is an excellent department at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria and also one at the Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town
