7year old Boyu frequent Blood in urine

Hi Doc

My boy now aged 7 has now for the 3rd time since birth end up with blood in his urine, today he complained about stomach pain and we took him to the Doc, he did a urine check and found blood.

The last time he had this was begining of the year when his urine turned bright red, he had a UTI and they treated him for this.

Now this time it''s not as bad but the traces of blood is there, i need to know what could possible be causing this, is it something i need to be concerned about ?

Yes this is definitely something that needs to be investigated.Your son should be seen by an expert known as a peadiatric nephrologist. This should be done as soon as possible.

BMJ is right. Please book him in to a urologist as soon as you can - try to get a doctors referral so they can see him sooner. They may do a cytoscopy (I think that''s how you say it) to determine why he is having the macro haematuria and UTI. This is the best way forward and he can be treated appropriately from there.

Jacques, the paed is away until the 27th - but I am sure he will advice you to go and see a uroligist. It is very unusual for boys to have problems with their urinary system and you will have to have it investigated. A urologist specializes in the male urinary system.
