7wk old with diarhea

Hi Doc,
My daughter is 7 weeks old and this morning(around 3am) i changed her nappy with runny poo, it happened again around 7am and 11am. She is on breastmilk and still feeds like normal (on demand). Is there anything i can give her to keep her hydrated or is breast milk sufficient?
Thank you

Breast fed babies do not normally develop diarrhoea due to a gastric infection, especially such a young baby.It could be that your baby is a rather greedy feeder and is drinking a bit too much breastmilk.Do not change your breastfeeding schedule. This may just last a day or two and hopefully will then setttle down. If her loose stools continue it would be best to ask for advice at your nearest baby clinic.

Hi Lee. Breastmilk should be sufficient but you could also try giving her some cooled water in between feeds. Just monitor if diarhea is accompanied with fever etc
