7 year old not sleeping

My son will be turning 7 in June this year. He seems to be going through a really bad phase (hoping it''s a phase!) of not sleeping the required amount of hours per night (+/- 10). He seems to be afraid of things that he sees in his mind and also the bad weather during the night doesn''t help (he is scared of thunder)
He will only fall asleep in our bed and wakes anything between 8 - 10 times during the night and get into bed with us. This is becoming exhausting because we do not want him to sleep in our bed so we get up and take him back to his bed but he takes a while to fall back to sleep. I have become so desperate for some sleep (so have my husband) that we take turns to sleep in his room and he then sleeps with one of us in our bed. I am currently also 27 weeks pregnant

Your son seems to be going through a period where he is very anxious. His behaviour is certainly not normal for a boy of his age. Have you tried to find out if there is something that is worrying him? Has someone close to him been ill or died recently especially one of his grandparents. This does not seem to be something at school as he has been anxious right through the school holidays.Try giving him Rescue remedy at night for a few nights and see if this makes any difference. If not it would be best to take him to be seen by a child psychologist.
