6 year old wetting pants

Hi. I have a happy, well adjusted, healthy 6 year old son who wets his pants on a regular basis. He claims it is because he cannot get to the toilet in time but when you watch him - It is almost as if he is too involved in what he is doing to stop and go to the loo when he needs it. I have tried everything from star charts to taking away treats but nothing seems to help. He has had this pants wetting issue from about 3 and a half years of age. I have had his doctor check him out but they claim there is nothing wrong. They have suggested that he may be constipated but he has daily bowel movements so I am unconvinced that that is the issue. Can you perhaps offer me any advice as to what might be causing this. Thanks.

Your son has a very common problem which is called enuresis. Does he wet his bed at night? He should be placed on one of the many treatments for enuresis [speak to your paediatrician again] and I would suggest that he is also seen by a child psychologist.
