Q.

6 month old stools

My 6 month old baby is passing stools in almost every nappy, it is not diarrhea but just I thought it was going to stop but it is continuing and this is the second week. He has the signs of teething like drooling, taking everything to the mouth and you can see that he is not comfortable in the mouth as he is not keen on his bottle either but still drinks it. Other than this frequent passing of stools there is nothing else that seems to be wrong with him. What must i do, does he need to be seen by a doctor. Thanks your help is much appreciated.

This does not seem to be due to an infection as your baby is quite happy and appears to be well. He is teething at the moment and sometimes babies pass more frequent stools for a while during this period. If the problem persists beyond the time that he is teething it is possible that he may have developed a food intolerance such as lactose intolerance. He should then be seen by his paediatrician.
