Dear Paed

My son (6mths) has a really bad cold, he is really struggling the poor little guy, he has a bad post nasal drip so he coughs (wet coughs) a lot and had a temp of 37.9 last night, which we gave 5mls of Ponado for. He has gone off his bottles a bit and at times has a tight chest as well. I am currently giving him Bisolvin Linctus (5mls) and then Bennets saline drops for his nose. Is there anything else I can give him or switch to to make him feel a little better, especially at night? He is not sleeping well, which I' m sure is not helping. I' m just so desperate to give him some proper relief! Last night he was rubbing his eyes and nose viscously, so I' m not sure if this could mean something else other than a bad cold?

Your baby has a cold and also appears to have a chest infection, probably bronchiolitis which is caused by the same virus. This illness usually lasts for 5 to 10 days. The main thing is to keep his nose clear by using Salex nose drops twice a day and Panado for fever. Do not give him the Bisolvon as this will make him active and interfere with sleep. If he starts to breathe very rapidly or cannot feed properly please take him to see your doctor.
